The announcement was done concluded that it would happen in January and McGregor was agreed to the terms and conditions of the fight. He has now returned his bout agreement so that he can put any doubts to rest since the two fighters will face each other after they clashed at UFC 178 more than 6 years ago.
McGregor’s last fight happened in January, and White suggested that it will be difficult to set up a fight for him, due to his star power and the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has made it impossible to have live crowds. The venue of the UFC 257 held at the UFC Fight Island, Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates.
During his recent outings, McGregor defeated Donald Cerrone after his return from a 15-month hiatus. He defeated the fighter in 40 seconds by a TKO at the UFC 246.
Poirier on the other hand has only fought once in 2020, and he defeated Dan Hooker in June by unanimous decision. His last six fights saw him emerging as a winner, with the only loss coming from a lightweight championship unification bout at UFC 242 against Khabib Nurmagomedov. This happened last year in September. He entered the bout just as an interim champion after capturing a vacant belt through a win against Max Holloway at the UFC 236.
When these two fighters met on September 24th, 2014 at the featherweight, Poirier was defeated by McGregor by TKO during the first round. However, White has dismissed the claims that these two fighters might be fighting for a title that is vacant, since he expects Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is the current champion and announced retirement after a successful title against Justin Gaethje, to be able to compete again.
