Paulo Costa (The American Patriot) 13-0 the Brazilian-born mixed martial artist (MMA) was born on April 21, 1991, and he is currently ranked #2 in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) Middleweight class. Costa was the son of Carlos Roberto, who worked odd jobs to support his family. His early life was very rough; he was constantly getting into street fights, and so he picked up the discipline of martial arts in order to help him avoid these situations. Paulo would go on to join a jiu-jitsu gym along with his brother. However, he would quit the sport after he lost his father to throat cancer when he was 17.

MMA Career

Before his days with the UFC began, Costa had to begin his MMA career in his native Brazil. He did so in February of 2012 on the condition that his mother would support him monetarily for a year while he pursued his kickboxing career. He would perform in MMA for five years in Brazil and he would amass a record of 8-0, with seven of those victories by knockouts and one of them coming by submission.

After his MMA days, Costa was so impressive that he was chosen to fight in the Brazil 3 Ultimate Fighting contest. His opening elimination round was perhaps the most impressive; he notched an impressive defeat of Jose Roberto via a submission hold consisting of a guillotine move. However, he was defeated in the second round by Marcio Alexandre Jr. by a split decision.

After competing in the Brazil ultimate fighter contest, Costa decided that it was time for him to debut on the UFC circuit, and he made his debut on March 11, 2017. He was slated to appear against Garreth McLellan on UFC Fight Night 106, winning the bout by TKO in round one. Costa fought against Oluwale Bamgbose in June 2017, defeating him by TKO in the second round. Costa faced off against Uriah Hall on July 7, 2018, and won the bout via TKO in the second round.
